Welcome to the Merck Action Network!

About the Merck Action Network

The goal of the Merck Action Network is to educate employees and retirees about important policy issues that impact our Company, and when appropriate, call on employees and retirees to contact their legislators.  When policy and legislative activities directly affect our business and incentives for pharmaceutical innovation, Merck believes it is appropriate for employees to voluntarily share their views with legislators.

To help keep employees informed and educated about important legislative issues, the Merck Action Network has established www.merckvotes.com.  On this website you will find easily accessible information on specific legislative issues, how your elected official voted on key Merck issues and how to become more involved in the electoral process.  But we don't -- and won't -- tell you how to vote.  That decision is up to you - the voter.

As a constituent, you are important to your elected officials.  As an employee, you are vital to Merck’s success. If you are a retiree, your experience at Merck makes you a qualified and important ambassador for the value of pharmaceutical innovation brought to the market by our company..Through the Merck Action Network, we can all constructively participate in the political process and help shape the external environment for Merck’s success.

Message From the President and CEO

At Merck, we all share great pride in the long tradition of research and innovation that has defined our Company. This tradition has yielded breakthrough medicines that have improved the lives of generations of people. We can attribute this tradition to the people of Merck, to the investments we have made, and to an external environment conducive to breakthrough innovation.

As you know, we are protecting this tradition going forward by continuing to attract and retain the best people and by making increased investments in research and development. In addition, we are also protecting this tradition by ensuring that Merck is a leader in helping to shape our external environment so that innovation is protected here in the United States and around the world.

The Merck Action Network is a key part of Merck's strategy to help shape our external environment in the United States. The Merck Action Network is the Company's grassroots initiative to educate employees and seek their support on legislation important to Merck.

Through this web site, the Merck Action Network provides Merck's U.S.-based employees and retirees with the tools to learn about important legislative issues as well as a vehicle to communicate with their members of Congress. As lawmakers consider legislation affecting our business, our presence across all fifty states is a key asset that can help better educate them on our views.

Whether you use the Merck Action Network to learn more about key issues, to find your local representative, or to take action by writing a letter to your member of Congress, I encourage you to explore this web site, play a part in Merck's grassroots efforts, and further help protect our proud Merck tradition.

Sincerely,
Dick Clark
